Comments on: What are Citi ThankYou points worth? Here’s how to get the most out of them https://millionmilesecrets.com/guides/citi-thankyou-points-value/ Fri, 21 May 2021 15:22:59 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.1.4 By: Justin https://millionmilesecrets.com/guides/citi-thankyou-points-value/#comment-5806954 Fri, 21 May 2021 15:22:59 +0000 https://rvprmmsprd.wpengine.com/?p=533067#comment-5806954 I have a Premier card and my rate for cash back or a statement credit is 1 point = 1 cent, not the 0.5 noted in the article. Maybe they have recently changed their policy? Either way, it’s the same value as gift cards, at least with a Premier card, it seems.

For regular spend, my #1 category is dining, 5x on the Prestige, whereas the most you can get from the others is 3x UR and 4x MR. Also, the Premier is increasing supermarket spend to 3x, a definite boon. I only use TYP through the portal for rental cards, sucks that it will go from 1.25 to 1 cent per point. Anyway, value of TYP, MR and UR is not static and highly personal – I can wring equal value out of all three. Pays to diversify!

However, this article states on all travel through the portal. If it is on all travel through the portal it would help persuade me to sign up.

That sounds like a very difficult payout on your employer since the points value is relative. What you could do is find the retail rate of the item or trip you bought and show them that.

Reason being is that you are getting almost identical mile rates as their US partners United & American and they can be used for all of the Star Alliance & OneWorld Partners. Getting 5 miles per dollar for basically American Airlines flight is better than the AA card itself.

I misread, its 1000 pts per dollar, making the TY points worth 1.2 cents.

Any comments? I love using shop your way with the 100 (used to be 200) pts that Uber gives you.

You could definitely do that! That’s a better deal for hotel stays.

The only down side would be if you wanted to redeem for a stay with the Prestige 4th night free perk – then the points would have to be in your Prestige account. It would work out to a 25% off with either card.

Still, I’d run the numbers both ways to see what’s more beneficial as far as points options.

For airfare, it doesn’t matter until later this year (September 2019) when the Prestige points value decreases to 1 cent each. You can use either card account to get the same value – for now.

Just note, once you combine accounts it cannot be undone. But you can transfer between accounts all you like.

Hope that helps!
